A Posse of Poms!

A Posse of Poms!!

An absolutely delightful House/Pet Sit, looking after 6 gorgeous, fluffy little Pomeranians. We didn’t know this breed very well and this was the first time we have looked after 6 dogs. Not just a “Posse of Poms” but in fact a whole family of them. Pop (Jez) and his lady (Ruby) and their 4 kids: Echo, Emperor, Freddie and Fifi.

When we first arrived, we really did wonder, how on earth we would know who was who….they all looked so very similar. Kindly, the owners, Paul and Debbie had taken this into account and gave us separate photo’s, labeled with the name of each fur ball! Then proceeded to test us, as a bit of fun…...no pressure!

Actually, if proved to be quite easy as the six little “Darlings” all had very different personalities, and we quickly came to realize who was who.

Pop (Jez) the very lovable, old boy of the group, was in heaven having a tummy tickle and a cuddle. To our delight at dinner time he did a funny little spin to show his excitment for what was definitely his favourite part of the day. Ruby ( Mum), the feisty one, great to watch her playing with the “kids”, although if she’d had enough, she’d take the ball away and sit on it till everyone calmed down. Woe betide any one coming near this lady and her dinner, as Tom found out!

The kids, Echo & Fifi - buddies and playmates for chase the ball. Echo, being bigger and faster than Fifi, normally the winner, much to Fifi’s dismay. Echo's party piece was his impression of a kangaroo, he loved to jump…and would leap onto you knee when you least expected it. Quite a feat for a small dog!

Emporor, (also known as Umpy), the shy and retiring one, unless in the garden when hanging out the washing, - then thought it was fun to run around in circles, barking…never did work our what that was about! He also loved to try and nip your heels if he thought you were going out the garden gate...what fun!

Freddie, the big boy, a huge bundle of fluff, loved his cuddles and giving lots of sloppy kisses. Always around your feet to the extent you felt like you were wearing fluffy slippers most of the time.

Lastly little Fifi, what an adorable little fur ball of fun. If dogs can smile then she was smiling all the time…such a happy wee face. Her absolute favourite pastime was a game of chase the ball. Very expressive, when she didn’t win the race for the ball (most of the time!), big sighs ensued. Funny to watch her try to get attention pawing at the ground and more sighs if no one would play…a very funny little darling.

Each morning it was a joy to come down and be greeted with such enthusiasm but this furry group, it was like walking through a sea of fur to put the kettle on, as they all clambered for attention.

A morning grooming session was part of the regime for the Poms, armed with a new brush and lots of patience, the daily task was enjoyed by most with the exception of Emperor who was not a big fan. Personally, I loved it….I think it brought out the inner hairdresser in me!

Feeding time was fun! Paul the owner, had shown us the night he left, that, at feeding time they all had their bowls in specific places, and each had a particular coloured bowl. Once the bowls where placed on the floor, they would all sit by their bowl and not start eating until they got the command from Paul to…..”Go for it”

The following evening - our turn - and we thought we knew what we were doing. We were pretty sure who went where and what colour bowl, but turns out we were wrong!. It was a pantomime!!! The two girls, mum and Fifi had red bowls and we’d given one of these to Fifi’s big brother Freddie….oh dear! Fifi was most put out and refused to eat her dinner until it went in her red bowl…her brother on the other hand wolfed her dinner and proceeded to try to eat his too! We had also mixed up Pop (Jez) and Ruby places. Feisty Ruby sorted this out putting Pop in his place.

Time to contact the owners! Had a skype call and ascertained who went were and what colour their bowls were and after that no problems, although it was more of a free for all, as we couldn’t quite get them to wait for the command, like Paul could.

They certainly kept us very entertained and after the 3 weeks it was very hard to say farewell. We will remember this sit very fondly. More tears, from me, we will miss this lovable little bunch!
